MG 4.5 Flamed Koa & Bearclaw Sitka Spruce

Sale price$13,900.00

This guitar pairs one of nature’s most visually stunning hardwoods with a soundboard chosen as much for its character as its performance. The flamed koa back and sides shimmer with movement and depth, each curl catching the light in a way that feels alive—an unmistakable hallmark of a truly special set of koa. Long revered for its musicality, koa offers a warm, focused midrange with a natural sweetness that continues to open and deepen over time.

Topping this guitar is a striking Bearclaw Sitka spruce soundboard, selected not only for its dramatic figuring but for its exceptional stiffness and responsiveness. Bearclaw Sitka delivers clarity and headroom in equal measure, allowing the guitar to speak with power when driven, yet remain nuanced and articulate under a lighter touch.

OFFSET SOUND HOLE

Driven by the belief that traditional acoustics could be reimagined, Matt McPherson developed the groundbreaking Offset Soundhole. By positioning the soundhole off-center, the central part of the guitar's soundboard remains longer and uninterrupted, enhancing vibration across the top. The result is greater volume, clarity, and a richer sonic experience for the player.

CANTILEVERED NECK

Every McPherson guitar features a Cantilevered Neck, which is not glued or connected to the top of the guitar, but instead floats above the soundboard. This design allows the soundboard area underneath the fretboard to vibrate freely, which increases the sustain of the guitar.

OVERPASS / UNDERPASS BRACING

McPherson’s unique Overpass/Underpass Bracing System creates a larger, more even space for the top to vibrate. The soundboard’s braces cross each other but never touch or inhibit vibration. This frees the braces to vibrate independently while still lending structural support and maximizing soundboard vibration.

CARBON REINFORCED NECK

The McPherson Carbon Reinforced Neck is praised for its incredible strength and stability and is built around the largest carbon fiber truss rod ever used on a guitar. Attached to the body with a triangulated heel design, it stabilizes the neck and virtually eliminates the need for neck adjustments.
